SLDW 2015 Winter-Spring Events

Movie Night: In our February tradition of showing a movie of specific interest to women. SLDW will screen Inequality for All, the award winning documentary by Jacob Kornbluth featuring Robert Reich, Labor Secretary under President Bill Clinton. Reich, presenting data used in his Wealth and Poverty class at UC- Berkeley, discusses the grave economic and social consequences that may result if the gulf between rich and poor continues to widen.

Honoring Women’s History Month: Those of us who have seen the film, Iron Jawed Angels, have been moved and inspired by the sacrifices that women made in the early part of the century to guarantee women the vote. Hillary Swank gives an unforgettable performance as Alice Paul, who returns from England after participating in the suffrage movement there, only to find that her counterparts in the US have been too willing to make compromises over the rights of women. In 2012, SLDW gave copies of the film to the libraries in our member towns. To honor Women’s History Month, we have arranged for showings at several of those libraries as follows:

March 8th: 1:30 PM; Lyme Public Library, 482 Hamburg Rd, Lyme CT  06371

March 12th: 6:30 PM; Henry Carter Hall Library, 10 Killingworth Turnpike, Clinton CT  06413

March 30th: 6 PM; E. C. Scranton Memorial Library, 801 Boston Post Road, Madison CT  06443

Griswold vs Connecticut Turns 50: Details to be announced!

SLDW Annual Banquet and Fundraiser: The SLDW Banquet and Fundraiser again will be held at The Water’s Edge Resort on April 30, 2015. We will gather to celebrate the year’s accomplishments and honor women leaders. This is always a fun event for members and friends of SLDW.  There will be a silent auction to raise funds for our important work. There are always unique and varied items to entice your bids. So reserve the date – be there or be square.

It’s never too early to start thinking about silent auction and raffle items for the Fundraiser. Email the info for any items you are able to secure to

Other Spring/Summer Events

Networking Events and Picnics: We plan to hold more social events this spring and summer. We never get enough time to catch up with our SLDW friends.    Watch for announcements of these events and plan to bring your Democratic friends and family. They just may find us to be a group that they would like to join!
